For my phenakistoscope, I displayed a lunar cycle with a gear moving up and down. I did this to show how nature works like a machine in that it will keep going indefinitely. I also drew lines towards the bottom that gradually go up and down. This was to represent tides caused by the gravitational pull of the moon. The rapidly changing colors from orange to blue represents the day going from dusk to dawn, which occurs faster the older one gets.
