City
I made this using construction paper cutouts. To give a silhouette look to the piece, I used black paper for the objects and high contrast between the objects and the background. I believe my finest work to be between 20 and 27 seconds, as the animation there is the most smooth.
Demons
Demons are often described as evil spirits and are found in all kinds of media. In religions, such as Christianity, they are described as fallen angels that seek to wreak havoc.
The Modest Circle
In this animation, a modest circle becomes a flustered diamond. To show the emotion of modest, I made a plain with nothing special about it. When the square comes in, I made the circle look shy to help display modesty. To show the diamond being flustered, I made it change colors and shake to show it being sort of embarrassed.

Journal #13
This is the beginning of my phenakistoscope. I made this using the laser printer and then cleaning it up using an x-acto knife.

Although it may not be the first animated film, it is considered the oldest surviving one, as the pervious two made before it are lost. The movie uses silhouette cutout stop motion animation which is unique to her and few other animators. Although the style is not often used, it uses fairly common animation techniques to achieve its effect. Continue reading “Lotte Reiniger”
